Taughannock frequently closed to swimming last summer by toxic algae.

What caused this algae? Will it happen again this year? Are there other problems found in Cayuga Lake and its tributaries we should know about?

Get answers to these and many other worrying questions at “Our Lakes and Streams: their Health and Care” a program being presented by the League of Women Voters of Tompkins County

Monday, February 25, 2019, 7:00-8:30 in the Borg Warner Room at Tompkins County Public Library.

The speakers are Hilary Lambert, Steward of the Cayuga Lake Watershed Network and Andy Zepp, Executive Director of the Finger Lakes Land Trust.

Don’t miss this opportunity to learn how we can protect our lake and local water resources. Lambert and Zepp will discuss a variety of factors that are now having a negative impact on the lake and streams or may do so in the future, why they are of concern, and what we need to do to improve the health of our watershed. They will also describe some projects the Land Trust is pursuing to protect these important sources of our water, including building up important wetlands.
